I designed this wedding invitation for a morning ceremony and brunch. The inspiration: Yellow! The bride wanted a scatter pattern of yellow dots for an abstract but artistic look on the invitation, and a solid yellow RSVP. We housed the invitations in a matching yellow envelope, and the response card was paired with a white envelope for contrast. The overall result: a sunny, unique invitation with vibrant color. Here are the digital files:

I designed this green, black, and white invitation for one of my Nashville brides. We wanted to embody a sense of the Hatch Show Print style with an interesting layout and the Nashville skyline. Here are the digital proofs of what we came up with:

The RSVP was an RSVP postcard. The front is shown:

And a details card for all the to, from, and other fun information:

Because I like to show the evolution of a design, here were our first round attempts before we settled on the above scheme:

Here, I played around with the construction of the wording– a fun idea, but it lacked a graphical component.

A bit more graphical this time with the swirls, still a lot of play with the type

You can see the third comp lead us into what would become the final evolution of the invitation– skyline and all.

I love the look of gray & blush paired together–there’s something so classic & romantic about the color duo. Amory came to see me last year about working with her to develop a custom invite that incorporated these colors– and I think we came up with a beautiful and complementary pairing. These were printed on a pearlized metallic paper for an extra kiss of sheen. They are one of my favorite sets to date.

The primary invitation card featured a gray paisley flourish at the top and bottom. The font selections were very classic– high tower for the non-script, and bickham fancy for the script font:

The couple had a second celebration, a Sofreh Aghd, a Persian Wedding Ceremony. For this card, we used an abbreviated card size, squared off to a 5X5:

The RSVP offered meal options to guests:

Doctors Andrea and Mario selected a beautiful color palatte of ivory, navy, champagne and a kiss of pink with accents of green. The result was a crisp combination of shades that was both elegant & contemporary. I worked with them to create a variety of signature paper goods to complement their day:

The Menu Cards were printed on shimmery gold cardstock:

Their monogram “R” became a central theme in the dinner papergoods, we also incorporated the same header design in the large seating chart organized alphabetically.

The table number cards featured the same color combination and design attributes, and was also printed on shimmery cardstock:

The doctors had a favor of chocolate covered espresso beans that we placed in cool vintage-inspired dispensary bottles and labeled for each guest to serve both as favor & seating assignment. I had a lot of fun making these look like a prescription label:

And now, for flowers
The bride carried a bouquet of ivory hydrangea with accents of cream hypericum & ivory & pink kissed roses:

The bridesmaids all carried a similar style, but with more pink and accents of green:

The bouquets contrasted beautifully with the girls’ navy blue dresses:

The guys had hypericum berry bouts. The grooms was in cream (to match his bride) and finished with antique gold wire:

The centerpieces were a combination of ivory hydrangea, pink roses, and green hypericum berries and white oriental lilies:

We had several series of looks– here’s from the mock-up session we did about a month before the wedding:

I love this image of the cocktail table arrangements:

And, to end on a sweet note: The delicious cake from Dessert Designs was embellished with layers of pink hydrangea accented with green hypericum berries, then topped with a family heirloom cake topper of sweet little birds:

Before we launch into lovely, let me tell you about Andrea and Mario– possibly two of the sweetest people I’ve yet to work with, and also quite amazing. You see, the two are both doctors. Yeah. They work an awful, awful lot, so planning a wedding was a ton of fun for them both, I’m sure. In between dress fittings & floral consults, I’m sure that the two of them wanted to go crazy a few times– or at least catch a good, solid night’s sleep.

Luckily, this fab couple had a fab planner to help pull all the details together– Kristin Kaplan with Simply Stunning Events. She was by their side each step of the way and also helped in working with me to come up with the essential details of the weekend’s festivities. Chris & Adrienne Scott were there to document the rehearsal dinner and wedding, so no special moment was missed.

The night before their wedding, we had a fabulous rehearsal dinner at Marathon Village that was inspired by lush, tropical flowers & hatch show prints. The colors: orange, steel gray, and hints of magenta & green. We wanted to stay far removed from the colors of the wedding (creams, blush, navy & gold with pops of green) so the rehearsal dinner was a very solid departure in style and theme. Hamilton Bartending Services kept the libations in quick supply, and Bacon & Caviar did an amazing job catering the soiree. When guests entered, they found signage that we created that asked them to fill out a nametag and get signed in– the perfect way to let out of town guests and family members get to know each other in a handy way. Each sticker asked the guests their name & their relation to either Andrea or Mario that Brocade designed and printed for the couple. I love the use of informative signage as a means to keep your guests in the know each step of the way.

The invitation that we designed, inspired by a Hatch Show print :
Guest Nametags:

One of the big focal points to the room was this…thing…we lovingly referred to as “The Temple”… it looked like a homage to Mayan Architecture. I had the bright idea to make it a beautiful space with candles & single stems of flowers:

The tables were lovely rectangles covered in white linens with green runners & napkins from Connie Duglin Linens. We did arrangements filled with tropical flowers that the mother of the groom & the soon to be newyweds loved: pincushion protea, dendrobium orchids, torch ginger and birds of paradise along with bells of Ireland and lily grass:

A lovely shot of one of the centerpieces:

And another. The balance of color is achieved by integrating the crisp greens of the spider mums & bells of ireland, then pairing with the bold color of the birds of paradise & the dendrobium for a tropical look without overpowering the senses:

I love the use of lighting in this space– Nashville Event Lighting always does an amazing job.

A wonderful night was shared by all at this beautiful space.

Stay tuned for details from the wedding & reception!

The reception was held at the Hermitage Hotel. Outside in the lobby, guests found their seating assignments by reading their names from cards printed on the same golden paper that the programs were printed upon– designed and printed by Brocade:

The oh-so-beautiful cake by Jo’s Custom Cakes & Catering

The guest tables were decorated in a white color scheme: tall white centerpieces with white and cream roses, denrobium orchids, gold ting, manzanita, gold branches, and hand-strung crystals made up the top of the arrangement. The base of the vases were filled with submerged orchids and branches.

Cyllinders filled with submerged flowers and floating candles rested on the tables, along with placecards, solitary rose blossoms, and votives.

A close up view of the centerpieces: all of the swarkovski crystal and freshwater pearl strands were hand-strung.

The guest tables featured handmade menu cards with a pearlescent brick red backing and menu card printed on gold paper designed and printed by Brocade:

Each menu card was placed within a gold napkin and then upon a crackled gold charger.

Brocade designed and made these table lumniaries with gold-dust vellum and red ribbon:

You’ll notice all of the fonts and colors are matching and cooresponding with the other elements: the programs, menu cards, luminaries, place cards, and luminaries are all complementary

I love this picture: you can see the Christmas Tree in the corner, i think it adds a great amount of depth!

the bride really wanted to incorporate the Nashville skyline, her signature colors (green, green, and more green-- with a bit of black) and reflect an elegant affair without being too formal

In May, Jessica & Steven were married on the Shelby Street Bridge & I’m so excited to share their invitations– they are so cool. I love it when a bride & groom wants to explore some options with their design and reflect their own unique personalities in their paper products. We started work on the invites in the fall, the bride really wanted to incorporate the Nashville skyline, her signature colors (green, green, and more green– with a bit of black) and reflect an elegant affair without being too formal.

Let’s start with the cover: the invite folded to a 5 X5 square with a black paper bellyband, and then closed with a monogram square stamp with their first name initials and the date:

The front cover was accented with a monogram square

The invite itself then folded out (blurring to protect the names of the couple & any pertinent personal information

The invite folded to three distinct panels

The first panel was the actual event invitation with the Nashville Skyline as the central image: the bride and groom wanted to imbue the image of the skyline to embrace their unique wedding location:

First panel in apple green with the skyline stamp of Nashville

Typography Details: main text is in crisp Garamond Small Caps. The bride wanted something less fussy for the script font, so we went with Palace Script. The skyline is an actual photograph of downtown Nashville that I manipulated in Photoshop to create a stamp that looked as though it had been printed with wood blocking.

The RSVP card utlized the same color scheme and design

The middle panel consisted of directions to the wedding location, directing guests from different areas of town. I ghosted the image of the skyline in the background so that the text could be easily read, and used a dark green font in conjunction with black to work with the color scheme.

The RSVP was a postcard that is perforated from the invite– a fact I love and that made sending in the RSVP so easy. The frontside featured the skyline in the same green as the rest of the invite, and we used a circular “accept/deny” checkbox– a cute little detail.

The perforate and send RSVP card

I used a lighter grayish green for the back of the RSVP card, stamped it with a postcard stamp– much more cost effective than sending regular mail in an envelope, but you need to be sure you meet USPS standard postcard sizes. The same ghost image of Nashville is here, too, so it’s a consistent design element thoroughout the piece, but I used some different shading here- shades of gray (to tie in to the gray-green of the reverse side of the postcard) and white to make the image more crisp. All of the backside text was in the Palace Script.

All in all, these invites were a blast to make. They did come in a bit more expensive to mail because they were a perfect square (which the post office charges more for– grr!) but i think they more than make up for it in their cool composition.
